#Spiritual Sundays: Affirmations- What They Are and Why You Should Incorporate Them Into Your Daily Routine

For this edition of #spiritualsunday we want to talk to you about affirmations. Affirmations are our self-talk. They are what we say to ourselves over and over again. If we are not mindful about it, our self talk is usually very negative. What do you think about on a regular basis ? Do you think about how you are so happy to be here and how you look forward to your day? If you do, that’s great, you’re on the right track and keep it up! Most of us, however, think negatively most of the time.

We worry about all the things we have to do that day, whether we will get where we are going on time and all the possible things that could go wrong during the day. We dread doing certain things or meeting with people. We think about how we are not good enough, about how we don’t look put together enough compared to other people. We think someone else is doing it better than us and that we will never catch up to where they are. We think we can’t do it and that we will fail.

Well that is very negative self-talk! If someone else spoke to you that way would you still be their friend? No. Then why do we treat ourselves that way? Why are we so mean to ourselves?  How can we succeed if we don’t believe in ourselves and we are constantly putting ourselves down?

The trick to beating that is positive affirmations. We have to conciously and mindfully retrain our thinking until positive thinking is our normal. If we think positively and we are on a high vibration, then we will attract more positive things into our lives , it’s the law of attraction (more on that in a future post).

Positive affirmations what they are and why they should be part of your daily routine

I personally started listening to positive affirmations and repeating them on my commute. I would do this every day and eventually I noticed that if I started thinking a negative though, I would correct myself, and repeat my positive affirmation!

You can say your positive affirmations whenever you get a chance: in the morning, on your commute, before you go to sleep, repeat them in your head whenever you are feeling low, or use them as a mantra during meditation. At first it can be a challenge to believe your affirmation, but thats ok. As you repeat them, you will believe them morre and more. Try to picture what you are saying to be true for best results!

Here are some of our favourite positive affirmations:

  1. I am completely healthy: mind, body and spirit.
  2. I treat my body with respect and feed it nourishing foods.
  3. I love myself.
  4. I am strong, confident and successful in everything I do.
  5. I have an abundance of money now.
  6. I welcome each opportunity that comes my way, with an open heart and open mind.
  7. I love other people and other people love me.
  8. I enjoy learning.
  9. I enjoy everything I do.
  10. I am thankful and grateful for today.

You can create your affirmations to be specific to an area that you need help with. For example, if you are often late for appointments you can say : I am always on time, easily and effortlessly.  If you want to exercise more you can say : I love to exercise, exercise is fun for me, I love to exercise for an hour 3 times a week.

If you need more inspiration, you can search positive affirmations on YouTube! There are lots of recordings there of positive affirmations, we love the ones by Louise Hay!

Happy thinking!
